Bra Queen founder, Michelle Mone OBE, chats to the Lifestyled team about the new range exclusively available at tesco.com/clothing
To celebrate the arrival of our new lingerie range, Bra Queen, we’ve decided to catch up with the brand founder, Michelle Mone, to hear all about the beautiful range that’s exclusively available attesco.com/clothing and across our stores.
Former model, Michelle, is one of the UK’s most successful female entrepreneurs and also founded international lingerie brand, Ultimo.
The award-winning co-owner of MJM International was voted Britain’s Number One most powerful woman in business by Glamour magazine, as well as receiving an OBE from The Queen in 2010 in recognition of her services to UK business.
So, as you can imagine, we were lucky to track down Michelle and have the chance to ask her all about her impressive career to date and the exclusive ‘Bra Queen’ range that we’re so excited about here at Lifestyled.
Michelle, tell us, how does Bra Queen differ from other lingerie brands out there?
I feel that the Bra Queen Range consists of quality designs and superb fit at an affordable price – only £12 a bra, against what is normally around £35. We wanted to allow people to still treat themselves and get a good quality product with the best innovation and technology at that reasonable price point.
What was your inspiration behind the brand?
My inspiration was to create a brand that brings quality designs and fit into your lingerie offering, to allow your customers to be able to buy an exclusive design and feel confident within themselves, as if they are shopping in a top class boutique but with the convenience of doing so in their local store or on your site. We wanted to bring a unique feminine brand to your customer.
So, what can we expect from the SS13 collection?
The collection is very feminine with lots of soft pastel tones, with exquisite lace and embroidery detailing. Our size range is available from a B – G cup. Every woman should try this – for the cost of a glass of wine and a sandwich you will have a designer bra!
What is your favourite item/set from the latest Bra Queen range?
I really like them all, but my favourite is the Madeline range. I love the soft blue pastel colour and delicate detailing.
Where do you draw inspiration from for each new collection?
My inspiration generally comes from the latest trends and catwalk shows. I also really value my customer’s opinions, so interacting with them regularly is key for me. I constantly shop around the world for inspiration and this latest collection was actually designed in New York.
Where did your passion for lingerie come from?
I’ve always been very passionate about beautiful, sexy lingerie and the idea came to me when I was at dinner dance one night and wearing a really uncomfortable cleavage bra. I had a light bulb moment; women shouldn’t have to go through this discomfort so the next day my quest began to create the perfect cleavage bra – 13 Inventions later and here we are.
As a successful business woman, what three tips do you have for other women who may be setting up a business of their own?
I’d say do your homework, have a business plan and never give up. You need all three factors to succeed in anything. I’d also say that drive is another main factor.
What has been the main challenge that you’ve faced in your career that you had to overcome to get to where you are now?
I’d probably have to say, buying out my ex-husband from the business – but now it’s onwards and upwards.
Having already been so successful in life, what are three other things you’d like to achieve in your lifetime?
I always believe that you should work hard, play hard and give something back. I want to continue inspiring women around the world and spread the message that if you have a dream and you plan, stay focused and determined it really can come true.
