When you’ve got an exciting party coming up but the contents of your purse don’t quite equal your level of enthusiasm, you need some fantastic tips for getting party-ready on a budget. Let the purse-friendly beauty prep commence…Get glowing skin
We all know a well-balanced diet that’s rich in nutrients will give your skin a healthy glow, but rather than lecturing you on the merits of your five-a-day, we’re getting straight to the point with the foods that’ll get visible results, and don’t cost a fortune either:
Tropical fruits such as pineapple, papaya, guava and kiwi will deliver a dose of vitamin C that will help your body create more skin-firming collagen while also giving it a hand fighting off free radicals. Start as soon as possible and you could have firmer-looking, healthier skin when it comes to the big night.
Snack on blueberries. They pack an antioxidant punch that’ll help your skin fight back against premature ageing. Just half a cupful is enough to double our normal antioxidant intake, Fit Day advises.
Boring but true: hydrating your skin with plenty of water is the best way to give it a beauty boost.
If you’d prefer something hot, go for green tea. This refreshing brew is filled with inflammation-fighting antioxidants, which is great news if your skin is irritated.
You don’t need to spend all your money on salon facials. Make your own facemasks and enjoy a pampering treat that’ll leave you just as fresh-faced:
Banana facemask (it doesn’t get any simpler than this):
Just mash up a medium-sized ripe banana until it is a smooth paste then spread it across your face and neck. Leave it on while you relax for ten minutes or so, then rinse it off using cool water. Tah dah: soft, smooth and moisturised skin.
Cucumber and yoghurt facemask (the perfect cooling, soothing treat)
Using a blender, mix half a cucumber with one tablespoon of yoghurt, apply to your skin, leave for 15 minutes and wash off with cool water.
Get beautiful hair
Homemade hair treats
If you’ve got dry, damaged hair, a mashed up avocado will give it a moisturising vitamin boost.
Oily hair will benefit from an apple cider vinegar rinse to refresh it and add shine.
Apply makeup like a pro
Now that you’re all fresh-faced and glowing, make sure your party makeup will do your skin justice. Find time in the build-up to the big day to head over to a department store and ask for tips and tricks at your favourite makeup counter. You could find yourself getting a free beauty master class which you can then put into action on the night – perhaps using less expensive products or items you already own but used in different ways.
Alternatively, search for makeup tutorials online and get practising for a fantastic new look.
