Pack it up

By laurahenshaw in Back To School on Tuesday 8th January, 2013

With Christmas over and the kids back to school (hooray!), liven up their packed lunches with these creative lunch ideas.

1)     Remove crusts and use baking cutters to cut their favourite sandwiches into shapes like stars, hearts and circles

2)     Create lunch box monsters by placing carrot, cucumber and celery sticks into the ‘mouths’ of open brown rolls and decorate with cheese cube eyes

3)     Ditch traditional bread and try something different like flatbreads, wholemeal wraps and pittas loaded with fillings

4)     Choose a packed lunch box with individual compartments and fill them with bright fruit and vegetables like grapes, sweetcorn and sugar snap peas

5)     Get creative – try rolling ham up into mini swirls or creating flowers with clementine segments

Do you have any top tips for adding a fun twist to their lunches? If so, drop us a comment below.

Tips on Buying School Uniform

By saraferrity in Back To School, Childrenswear on Thursday 16th February, 2012

I’ve enlisted the help of my lovely mum Oonagh (26 years of motherhood and 4 kids makes her well qualified) to share with us some of her back to school tips:

Another school term is fast approaching and while this new start can be very exciting for the kids it can prove a little stressful for the adults not least because of the back to school shopping rush. Preparation is key, so kit them out now, and you can sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of your break.

1. Make a list

It’s worth checking whether your child’s school has a uniform list, so you know exactly what they’ll need saving you a lot of time and money.

Generally speaking the following minimum usually does the trick: 3 shirts or blouses to allow one on, one in the wash and a spare, 2 sweatshirts or jumpers, 2 trousers or skirts.

We also sell school-specific embroidered uniform from a range of participating schools exclusively online. Our embroidered uniforms are great value and easy to order online along with your other standard uniform. They are all approved by your school, so you can place your order with peace of mind and then simply wait for them to be delivered direct to your door. Easy!

2.  Be sure on sizing

When uniform shopping for your children buy for their height rather than their age.

It’s worth taking a look at our sizing guide for sizing and further tips.

3.  Buy uniform in one go

This idea might seem like a big old job, as it’s an expensive business and it’s often the last thing your children want to do, but it means you can try everything on together to make sure jackets and coats fit over the rest of the uniform, and trousers sit well with shoes.

4.  Label it

You know what kids are like – things are easily left on the bus, lost on playing fields, or mistakenly taken from the cloakroom. Make sure you label everything to aid a safe return for any misplaced items.

And just in case the worst happens and a piece of your little treasure’s uniform goes missing for good  we stock uniform all year round. What’s better is that with our Click and Collect service if you order online before 3pm (Sunday to Friday) you can collect from your chosen store from 4pm the next day!

Clothing at Tesco scores top marks for School Uniform!

By Rochelle Symons in Back To School, News on Tuesday 30th August, 2011

We’re delighted to announce that Clothing at Tesco have been awarded top marks for our school uniform against other stores by a couple of independent testers for The Sun newspaper, scoring a fab 5 out of 5 for quality and price, with the young testers (Finnbar, 5 and Scarlett, 7) “begging to take them home!”

But it’s not just the children who think we’re top of the pile. Back in July we went to visit some mums at Whitehill School to find out what they thought, and you can see their responses here.

With the new school term just around the corner it’s important their new uniform will last them through the year. Here at Tesco our uniforms are made to last and at a price that is second to none.

If you are still looking to get their new uniform, or need some last bits and pieces, you’ll be pleased to know that from today you can get free next day delivery on all Back To School items – just order by 3pm to receive it tomorrow.

Now back to arrangements for the final week of holiday…!

School Uniform Top Tips part 3!

By Chloe Tompkins in Back To School, Top Picks on Tuesday 26th July, 2011

Back To School

The school holidays have finally begun! And even though the kids were itching to run out of the school gates, we know that some mums are already thinking about the school uniform for next year. It’s no secret that shopping for schoolwear can sometimes be hit and miss, so this week we asked our mummy bloggers:

“When is the best time to shop for school uniform?”

Jo, who writes Jo Beaufoix says – “I’m finding some pretty good bargains at the moment, but otherwise a good time to shop for school uniform is September and October when the summer ‘back to school’ thing is coming to an end. If your little one is just starting school I’d say get them early as the smaller sizes tend to go quite quickly, but once you know what size and style suits your child you can buy for the next year too.”

Cathy, who writes NutureStore.co.uk says – “It’s a tricky balancing act between getting clothes the right size and avoiding a last minute panic. We always shop in the middle of the summer holiday and cross our fingers for no sudden growth spurts before term starts!”

Ella, who writes Notes From Home says – “I buy my uniform two or three weeks into the summer holiday and I buy it on the slightly big side. If I leave it any later to buy, I worry that it will all be gone. If I buy it any earlier, the chances are they will have grown out of it by the time terms starts in September!”

Amy, who writes And 1 more means four says – “I do it at the end of august when I buy the new school shoes.”

Kate, who writes The Five F’s blog says – “When there are in-store promotions. That tends to be earlier in the summer but I think you should try to get most of it by the end of July as some sizes sell out quickly, especially the smaller sizes where parents with children starting school in September tend to buy well in advance. I buy summer dresses for school as soon as I see them.”

Do you agree or disagree? Let us know what you think by posting your tips and comments!

School Uniform Top Tips part 2!

By Chloe Tompkins in Back To School, Top Picks on Monday 18th July, 2011

School Uniform

There’s that age old saying that ‘Mum always knows best’, and we certainly seem to think so! This is why we recently asked some of our favourite Mummy Bloggers to give us their best school uniform advice, so stay tuned as we’ll be posting their answers to our questions on the blog every week!

Previously, we asked our Mummy Bloggers to tell us “What is more important, quality or value, and why?”Click here to see what they said!

This week we’re asking…

“What is your top tip for taking care of / maintaining school uniform?”

Jo who writes Jo Beaufoix says – “Buy short sleeved shirts/blouses. When Miss E started school her cuffs were so stained we were replacing them within a month.  Short sleeves means they’re less likely to get covered in paint, baked beans and snot!”

Cathy, who writes NutureStore.co.uk says – “Put your child’s name in everything using a fabric pen (who’s got time to sew labels in?). I can guarantee my girls will lose at least one item of clothing and having everything clearly labelled means there’s much more chance of getting it back again.”

Ella, who writes Notes From Home says – “I always deal with stains the same day. And I wash their sweatshirts inside out to help the colour last longer. I always cut off loose threads too, otherwise I find they like to fiddle with them when they should be doing Maths and then they come home with the cuffs on their sweatshirts frayed beyond repair!”

Amy, who writes And 1 more means four says – “Use good quality washing powder/liquid.”

Kate, who writes The Five F’s blog says – “Act quickly when they get stains on uniform. Buy lots of stain remover and get it straight in the wash. If the stain doesn’t totally wash out, try to line dry on sunny days (which are rare here in Lancashire!) as that helps to fade stains!”

Do you agree? What would your top tip be?
