Swinging 60s…

By Gemma Conley-Smith in Brands, Exclusive, Get the look, Top Picks, Trend, Trends on Wednesday 23rd January, 2013

Here at F&F Towers we spend a lot of time looking at what’s on the catwalks to make sure our range is bang up to date, and today I’m really excited to share a few looks with you from our new collection, 60s GRAPHIC.  From Victoria Beckham to Marc Jacobs, this season is all about retro A-line shapes, crisp black and white body-con and splashes of red.  Taking their cues from fashion icon Twiggy and Carnaby Street in its heyday, our designers have interpreted the swinging 60s vibe into flattering, comfortable and easy to wear pieces which pack a serious style punch.

F&F style from Victoria Beckham, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors

Some of my favs from this range are below and include the Limited Edition Tipped Dress (1)  and Mini Skirt (3), both £35, and the flattering cropped jacket (4) which comes in black or red, teamed with the zip detailed trousers. (6) An easy and economical way to get a touch of the trend is to work some platform shoes (5), I love these subtle ones from Ella, or give a plain top a retro twist with a scarf.(2)

Key pieces to get the 60s inspired Victoria Beckham look at F&F
Or if you’re looking to make a 60s statement without any fuss, these dresses are the perfect shortcut.  We’ve taken 60s shapes and patterns and brought them bang up-to-date by lowering hems and streamlining designs so that the result is gorgeously on trend yet works on all figures.  I’m already coveting the daisy dress (1) and the red mini dress (3) to team with a denim jacket, tan wedge heels and a bunch of bangles for summer parties.  Check out the two monochrome lovelies below too – the black and white dresses shown at (2) and (4) will be available exclusively online soon and I’ll be sure to pop back and tell you when they’re live.

Speaking of the live fashion news, why not follow us on Twitter or join us on Facebook for all the latest from the team?  We’d also love to hear what you think in the comments section.
So have you got a 60s swing in your step? How would you wear this colourful retro look?
Love, Gemma x

What do your winter boots say about you?

By Gemma Conley-Smith in Brands, Clothing at Tesco loves, Get the look, Top Picks on Wednesday 5th December, 2012

Snow season is well and truly here and it’s time to either dust off your trusty favourite pair of boots or invest in some new ones.  But do you go for practical or pretty when picking your pair? What do your winter boots say about your style?Cowboy boots, pull on boots, western boots Tesco boots F&F at tesco boots
Cowboy and Western boots.  If cowboys are your pick we’d say you’re cool and confident.  After all, cowboy boots are always in vogue – they look great with jeans and skirts, and normally have a block heel which elongates the leg and shows off the calf to great effect.  You’ve got comfort and style sorted.Hiking and snow boots from clothing at tesco
Hiking/snow boots: A lover of the great outdoors and not a person who lets a little bit of bad weather stand in her way, if your choice of winter footwear is sturdy walking boots or practical snow boots, you’re always ready for adventure!F&F Riding Boots, Long boots, mid calf boots F&F at Tesco
Riding boots – quintessentially British and with a long and proud heritage, riding boots are for women who are sophisticated yet practical and like to look polished, whether they’re at the stables or shopping the high street.F&F Fur trimmed boots
Faux fur trimmed:  If you like your boots trimmed with faux fur, you might be exotic and indulgent, and love the feel of luxurious pile on your feet.  If you’re a faux fur girl, you like to finish off your outfits with pizazz.studded ankle boots from F&F at Tesco
Studded ankle – Fashion forward and tough, you’re a girl who likes to make a statement.  If you choose stiletto studded boots you’re no nonsense and not to be messed with, but also like the feminine look of heels.Just sheepskin, ugg boots, borg boots, suede boots
Sheepskin (and faux sheepskin) boots:  There are two stories about the origin of sheepskin boots – if you subscribe to the first, that they were made by shearers in rural Australia to keep their feet warm whilst tending sheep in chilly weather, you’re no doubt hardworking and like your boots multi-functional and no-nonsense.  If you prefer the second story, that they were first worn by surfers in California, when you slip your feet into your sheepskin boots, maybe you’re dreaming of tropical sunshine to get you through the winter.
So, which one are you?

Clothing at Tesco | New Season Lingerie Clothing at Tesco | New Season Lingerie Clothing at Tesco | New Season Lingerie

You may have noticed that last week we asked our lovely Facebook fans to tell us about their underwear dilemmas, and judging by the huge response we received it appears you ladies face a whole range of problems when shopping for your bust support! It’s not easy finding your ideal bra and if you’re anything like me, when you do find it, you cling on to it and wear it far too often, until you finally come to your senses (years later) and realise it is time to throw it out. There might be other bras in your drawer, but they will never be ‘the chosen one’ and so, the quest for a new favourite bra begins…

To help you through this (often painful) search, we thought we would respond to the more common issues mentioned by you all on Facebook – think of us as your bosom agony aunts!

The main grumble that came up time and time again was finding beautiful bras for the bigger bust at a decent price. Trust me, I also know this is by no means an easy task and I would urge you all to take a look at the new F&F fuller bust lingerie range on our website. I have to say, I think this is F&F’s best lingerie range yet. The collection boasts silky textures, lace and amorous shades, whilst still delivering on practicality and support for the larger sizes. The majority of the styles go up to a G cup and are simply worlds away from the uninspiring fuller bust bras we know from the past!

Here are some of my favourites from the new range…

Clothing at Tesco | New Season LingerieClothing at Tesco | New Season LingerieClothing at Tesco | New Season Lingerie

F&F Fuller Bust Helena Bra £8 | F&F Fuller Bust Greta Bra £8 | F&F Fuller Bust Samantha Bra £8

Another response that stood out, and one that I can certainly empathise with, is the difficulty of finding sports bras that provide enough support for a fuller bosom. Although we like to find excuses to skip the gym session, our bras no longer need to be one of them! At just £6, the F&F Sports Bra goes up to an F cup and provides more than enough support for that early morning run (if you’re that way inclined – no need to feel guilty, I’m not either…!).

Finally, some of you mentioned that you struggle to find the right bra for the right situation – strapless, backless, t-shirt, plunge, push-up… it’s a complicated process! To help you out, we’ve created a new online bra guide to help you in your pursuit for the perfect bra match, whatever the occasion. We’ve put all of our bras into 11 straightforward categories to help narrow your search. From strapless to maternity, there is something for every shape, size, outfit and purpose. There is even a bra fitting guide if you need to measure yourself at home!

As for the larger sizes – I hope we are heading in a direction where big boobs no longer means boring bras. After all, women are versatile; therefore our bras should be too!

We say ‘bravo’ to both the online guide and the beautiful new range, and hope you feel the same.

The Only Way is Ella!

By saraferrity in Accessorizes, Brands, Celebrity, Get the look on Monday 16th April, 2012

I’m so excited about the latest series of The Only Way is Essex that started this Sunday! It’s inspired me to give myself a bit of a style makeover this week (not on the same scale as the lovely Arg)….lashings of fake tan, manicured nails, fake lashes and of course very, very high heels!

Now I’m not making quite so much moolah as the TOWIE gang, but who cares about designer shoes when you’ve got Ella – celeb style for a fraction of the price!

More so than most of her co-stars Sam Faiers loves her denims and what could be more Essex than a white pair of skinny jeans? The owner of her own clothing boutique it’s safe to say Sam know what suits her, so I can guarantee she already knows that this coral top will work well against a tan (real or fake). Team with a pair of gorgeous Ella platform heels for a touch of glamour!

The lovely Lydia Bright is probably the most demure cast member and the one with the most unique (and arguably best) sense of style. Lydia loves to experiment with clothes from different decades so we thought this 70s style spot print halter neck dress would be right up her alley. Keeping it classy a pair of Ella cream peep toes to finish the look!

F&F Coral Rolled up sleeve zip back top £14.00 , F&F Belted straight leg jeans £16.00 , Ella Shoes Patent peep toe platform shoe £22.00

F&F Limited Edition Spot print halterneck maxi dress £40.00 , Ella Shoes Patent peep toe platform shoe £22.00 ,

Lauren Goodger is probably the most well known of the bunch and boy does that girl love a pair of leggings! Comfortable and form-fitting, leggings are a wardrobe must-have! Dress them up or down leggings work just as well in the gym as they do on a night out! If like Lauren you’re conscious of your figure then add a longer top with a bit of volume like this orange vest to balance your figure. Let your shoes do the talking with these Ella leopard print platforms – you’ll be the envy of Essex!

Chloe Simms has a very specific style – ladylike with a touch of Essex glamour! This classic figure hugging dress wouldn’t look out of place in Chloe’s wardrobe and the bold black and white vertical block pattern keeps this looking modern! We all know those Essex girls love a bit of animal print and these Ella snakeskin platforms would no doubt go down a treat!

F&F Zip pocket vest £12.00 , F&F Leggings £6.00 , Ella Shoes Animal print platform peep toe shoe £25.00

F&F Limited Edition Colour block belted shift dress £28.00 , Ella Shoes Snakeskin platform court shoe £25.00

Wear Green To Be Seen

By Zarah Harrison in Accessorizes, Brands on Monday 13th February, 2012

There is something about the colour green that I love, always have; as soon as I put something on that’s green I instantly feel happier.
Now with this season being all about bold colours and colour blocking, there’s plenty of opportunity to use green, particularly as a contrasting colour. It works with yellow, coral pink, blue… you name it and of course with the more classic darker colours like black and grey if you want a smarter, more classic look.
I’ve picked out a few of my favourite’s here that are really easy to wear and to accessorise. Coloured jeans are really in right now; these ones are very flattering as they are a skinny fit. You could honestly wear them with anything but here I’ve teamed them up with a honey coloured pussy bow blouse (a big trend at the moment) and dress them up with these gorgeous Ella platform stilettos. You could really strut your stuff dressed like this; cool but understated.

Pussy bow blouse £14, Green coloured skinny jeans £16, Ella shoes peet toe stiletto with corsage £25

I love this dress and it’s really flattering, nipping in at the waist giving a very feminine shape.  Accessorised with a glitzy or sparkly belt would work really well with this and would be great to wear to a wedding or a fancy evening do with a pair of killer black stilettos. Do your hair in a bee-hive if you can, it’ll add even more glamour to the look. But if you put a chunky black belt on this, add a tailored jacket, thick black tights and a heeled ankle boot; this would transform into the perfect office outfit. A very versatile little number!

Belted green ponte shift dress £22, Roll sleeve blazer £22F&F signature luxury wool tights £6, Heeled ankle boot £18, Large lace clutch bag £8, Ella shoes patent peep toe platform shoe £22

Boat necked tops are very flattering and this soft cotton one is the kind of thing you can wear over a pair of skinny jeans for a casual look. Or you can dress it up with a simple black pencil skirt, dark tights and a pair black leather peep toe court shoes. Opt for chevron pattern tights and some chunky beaded necklaces to give extra impact to the outfit!

Boat neck top £4, F&F ponte skirt £10Chevron pattern tights £3.50, Moda in Pelle embellished black leather peep toe court shoe £89.95, Large suedette buckle waist belt £5

Do you dare to be different? This brightly coloured scoop neck top is not for the shy wall flower however, it’s a fantastic piece for rocking the bold colours trend especially for the modest sum of £4. Team up with a pair of coloured jeans, I’d go for the raspberry pink ones for a true colour block look and top it all off with a blue unstructured blazer.  Worn with a pair of pale coloured, court shoe heels will dress this up or a pair of pumps will make it look more casual.

F&F scoop neck top £4, Coloured skinny jeans £14, F&F limited edition unstructured blazer £28, Moda in Pelle embellished white leather peep toe court show £89.95

And finally if you like being green on the inside as well as the outside; check out our ‘Green Collections’.  With ethically sourced African cotton and other co-operative initiatives in developing countries, it means you can shop with a conscience that’s as free as a bird!

New brand… Proskins Sportswear

By Ken Synnott in Brands, Menswear, News, Sportswear, Womenswear on Thursday 4th August, 2011

This week has been extra exciting for the clothing team here at Tesco, as we’ve finally received stock of a very highly anticipated sportswear brand on the site called Proskins.

If you haven’t heard of Proskins, they’re a professional sportswear manufacturer, which with specialist knowledge, great innovations and cutting edge design; have safety established themselves as a market leader in the sportswear industry!

The clothing team are going mad for the products we have on the site, especially the ladies with the Proskin Slim products for women. The amazing Proskin Slim leggings have specially designed to optimise your body’s ability to re-sculpt and lose inches – a fantastic at just £50!

Proskins also has an extra special range by Jason Robinson (pictured below), the former international rugby union and rugby lead player! To celebrate our launch, we caught up with Jason to find out why he teamed up with Proskins

KS: Hi Jason, so how did you first get involved in rugby?

JR: It all started at school, where I was into all kinds of sports. I was at Crossflatts Park Middle school and we were always messing about with a football or a cricket bat.  I was drawn to rugby by an enthusiastic sports teacher .Although I was small and slim for my age I loved the physicality of the game.  I started to play rugby league for for an amateur club and did that for 4-5 years and got spotted by  Wigan Rugby club and I went professional at the age of 17.

KS: How did the involvement with Proskins come about?

JR: Through a friend. As a sportsman I was always being sent products to try and was always looking for something that gave me that bit extra for my sport. The Proskins Active and Recovery product provided this extra benefit. My legs feel much better after exercise due to the benefits of the compression technology.  I developed my relationship with the brand and eventually my role changed to working for the company.

KS: What was it like to design your own range?

JR: Very new and strange but ultimately it is a privilege to be able to have that much input. My relationship with the designer at Proskins was crucial as they are specialists in their field but they allowed me to give the range my own look and feel.

KS: What has surprised you through the process?

JR: Everything really. It is amazing how much you take for granted but when you are involved every element takes on new importance. From cloth weights to fabric benefits. It’s odd but in a way when you are a retired sports person you try to find something to replace the adrenaline of the game and doing this has given me a new challenge. It has been great also that we are trying to speed up the design to production process which can take 12-18 months normally and we have tried to reduce this to around 16 weeks.

KS: What has been the greatest sporting moment of your career?

JR: There have been so many special moments having played at the highest level in both rugby codes.Playing for GB, England and the British and Irish Lions have all been fantastic but winning the 2003 World Cup with England in Sydney, Australia has to be the greatest moment!

KS: What is your own personal style?

JR: Quite mixed. Sometimes life dictates what you wear. I was a professional sportsman for 20 years so there was a lot of tracksuits etc but sometimes I needed to dress smart so it is a shirt and tie. I’d say generally I am quite smart. I have had a few fashion disasters when i was a teenager though too. I remember a particularly bad outfit, which I have a picture of somewhere of a turquoise pair of jeans and a puffa jacket in a similar colour. But don’t worry I won’t be repeating that in my new range.

KS: What are your predictions for the Rugby World Cup?

JS: New Zealand are favourites and have been for the last two World Cups but really with a competition like that it is down to any team on the day. Teams like South Africa and Australia have a good chance . England will need a few favours along the way if they are to reach a third consecutive final. England showed real character in 2007 and I hope this can be repeated. It comes down to the team who can handle playing under immense pressure and turn every opportunity into points!

KS: Thanks Jason and good luck with the range.

Jason Robinson for Proskins launches online at tesco.com/clothing in late August.
