Book Day!

By Gemma Conley-Smith in Childrenswear, Costume on Wednesday 6th March, 2013

It’s Book Day tomorrow, and we’d love to hear about your favourite, or least favourite costumes, either your children’s or your own.  Highlights of my Book Day ensembles include a ‘Little Mermaid’ rig (complete with an old bra of my Nan’s which she’d covered with fabric) and a dinosaur costume with egg cup spines.  I think my parents got off lightly though, as my cousin Bridie dressed up for a Peter Pan theme when she was four and insisted she was a pirate for the following year.
If you’re still in the market for a kid’s costume for this year, check out our range online  – we’ve got fairytale heroes and beasts, princesses and fairies as well as some comic book characters (comic books are graphic novels, no?)

Kids dress ups at F&FAnd if you’ve got little ones who love reading and can’t bear to leave the characters behind when storytime is over, or if your kids really got into the swing of Book Day this year, why not try our Very Hungry Caterpillar, Peppa Pig, Winnie the Pooh or Mr Men licensed clothing? There’s something at F&F for even the most reluctant bookworm.

Love, Gemma

Baby’s First Christmas: An alternative survival guide

By laurahenshaw in Childrenswear, Christmas on Tuesday 11th December, 2012

If you’ve got a new baby in the family then you’re probably getting really excited to celebrate their first Christmas and although they won’t remember the big day, it doesn’t stop you from making their first Christmas one you’ll remember forever. Take a look at our helpful suggestions for a fun (and memorable!) Christmas Day…

Go completely overboard and dress baby up as a Christmas Pudding/Elf/Penguin, take loads of photos and upload to Facebook so everyone can see how adorable your little one is.

Don’t throw away the used wrapping paper and empty boxes – ignoring their new presents and scrunching up used paper all morning is much more fun.

Charge the camera ready to take some hilarious photos of baby in a cardboard box or smearing food across their face in their high chair.

Prepare Grandma for nappy changing and winding duties with suitable protective clothing (apron and Marigolds) so you can sit down and enjoy the Downton Abbey Christmas special.

We’d love to hear your Christmas anecdotes. Leave a comment below if you’ve got any helpful tips or stories about their first Christmas and take a look our cute novelty babywear, perfect for Christmas Day dress-up!

What festive traditions are you doing this Christmas?

By laurahenshaw in Childrenswear, Christmas on Tuesday 4th December, 2012

Nostalgia is in the air at the F&F Clothing camp and we’ve been talking about all of the great traditions that make Christmas so magical for kids.  Take a look at our 5 favourite festivities that will keep the kids excited and re-light the magical Christmas ember inside Scrooge (Dad) himself.

1. Putting on your favourite Christmas CD and rockin’ around the Christmas tree while the kids eat hoards of chocolate reindeer

2. Hanging up the stockings on the fireplace (or if you haven’t got a fireplace, reassuring the kids that Father Christmas can let himself into the house with his magic key)

3. Leaving out a mince pie, carrot and small glass of Father Christmas’s preferred tipple on Christmas Eve and watching the kids’ faces when they discover the half eaten mince pie and carrot on Christmas morning

4. Sprinkling talcum powder on the floor and leaving Father Christmas sized foot prints

5. Dad dressed up as the jolly old man himself – beard included!

What Christmas traditions do you carry out every year? Let us know which advent calendars you’ll be buying for the kids and fun novelty stocking fillers. If you’re stuck for ideas take a look at our great gifts for girls, boys and baby.

What are your funny nativity stories?

By laurahenshaw in Childrenswear, Christmas, Costume on Tuesday 20th November, 2012

As the nights draw in and Christmas creeps closer and closer, so does the school nativity play. From disaster home made costumes and forgotten lines to trips and falls, we’ve been reminiscing about our own nativity mis-haps and we’d love to hear yours. Have you got any nativity catastrophes, costume disasters or You’ve Been Framed style anecdotes from years gone by or more recently?

I remember a nativity play where my sister was cast as the angel Gabriel; she had to make her big entrance by walking down the centre aisle of the audience and proceeded to knock unsuspecting audience members in the head with her oversized wings. Every year the story gets re-told and we laugh about it still.

If you’ve got a nativity play coming up and are stuck for ideas or haven’t got the time, take a sneak peak at our fabulous nativity dress-up costumes here. They’re a life saver for busy Mums and will really get you in the mood for Christmas!

Emma from Me, the Man & the Baby reviews the Gunapod

By Zarah Harrison in Childrenswear, Top Picks on Friday 3rd August, 2012

We know that Gunamuna’s Gunapod baby blankets are the bees knees but it’s great when someone else recognises it too. We’ve had a lovely review from Emma who writes Me, The Man & The Baby and has recently welcomed gorgeous baby Dylan into the family. Emma’s review made us feel very warm and glowy so we wanted to share it with you too. If you’re thinking about buying a baby blanket for a little one on the way (or already here), or are after the perfect gift for a mummy to-be then read this first and check out why a Gunapod is becoming the new essential for newborns….

.

I got sent a gunamuna gunapod when I was pregnant from the guys at Clothing at Tesco to review with Dylan for when he finally made his appearance. Now we’ve pretty much had good weather since he was born, thankfully the sun waited until I had given birth as I don’t know if I could of coped with this sun and a pregnancy. My poor sister in law who’s due to pop next month has pretty much spent the last couple of months sweltering and dealing with swollen feet. It’s ok because apparently the weather is meant to change over this weekend, so we might be using more of our gunapod.

We got to use it the other day when we decided to take a trip to the park and the weather was a little breezy and Dylan just needed that extra layer. It’s a soft 1.6 tog fleece so not quite as heavy as a 2.5 tog. He looked quite happy to be in and fell asleep wearing it, I found the fact I could open it up without waking him quite handy when I got him home as it was warmer indoors. I personally love how soft it feels and cant help but to give him extra cuddles when he’s wearing it.

There’s so many ways the gunapod can be worn, it’s the first wearable blanket that does everything you need. You can unzip the bottom easily to change a nappy or to let the feet breathe, you can unsnap the top getting to his/top, you can remove the entire front so you don’t have to wake them up to put it on. Check out this video to see this for yourself.

It’s available online for £20.00 and comes in a choice of 3 colours - creambrown & pink.

Holiday Hot List

By anitanaik in Childrenswear, Menswear, Top Picks, Womenswear on Thursday 21st June, 2012

Anita Naik is the resident Parenting and Beauty expert at VoucherCodes.co.uk and Most WantedWhen she’s not keeping readers updated on the latest make up trends and fragrance releases, she can be found penning her next book. Anita is super passionate about health, beauty, parenting, technology and Louboutins!

How do you pack for your summer holidays? Are you a throw-it-all-in the night before mum, or pack everything-and-the-kitchen-sink kind of parent?

Back before I had kids, I was a less-is-more type. My theory being – why pack everything, when you can always buy what you need abroad! Of course like many pre-parent theories this was severely tested the moment I went on holiday with kids.

Over the years I have been caught short of various items including swimming nappies, smart clothes, dresses and on one horrible occasion – kids underwear!

So seeing as how I never again want to have to persuade a stroppy 4-year old that everyone wears pull-ups on holiday, I now always ensure I have a holiday hot list that I prepare well in advance. It usually has around 10 key items (aside of basics like underwear, nappies and towels) and has to meet the following criteria:

(1)         All clothes must be both functional and fashionable.

(2)         There must be holiday-style gear for husband.

(3)         Clothes must not make us look like a family that has got dressed in the dark.

Having said all that here is my current Top 10 List:

1. Mix and Match Colour Bandeau Bikini Top £3.50 and Bikini Briefs £3.50. Neon is also a major SS12 trend making this two piece a hit.

2. Stella Morgan Chain Print Maxi Dress £20.00. Hits all the right boxes – on trend Versace style chain print, maxi to hide variety of sins, and turquoise one of the hot SS12 colours.

3. Leather Strap Sandals £12.50. Great style that will work for beach or best, plus comes in a variety of colours and even a t-bar style.

4. Applique T-Shirt £8.00. A great tee that scores well with it’s American varsity logo.

5. Men’s Swim Shorts With Flip Flops £15.00. I always like a buy that kills two birds with one stone – laid back beach shorts with flip flops – ideal husband buy!

6. Kid sunglasses – Floral £3.50 and Aviator £3.50 – the one item I ALWAYS forget and can never find when abroad.

7. Chino Shorts (boys) £8.00. An ideal buy for the 2 year old.

8. Pack of 2 Fun in the Sun T-shirts £5.00. My 2 year old goes through t-shirts at an alarming rate so I’m loving this two pack.

9. Pastel Flower Print Dress £10.00. Pastels and floral equals cute on any little girl, making this dress a must-have buy.

10. Rolling Stones T-shirt £9.00 – Grey is the new pink in my daughter’s eyes (pink being too babyish apparently) so she’s chosen this rock tee as her must-have holiday item. Who am I to argue?
