Holiday Hot List

By anitanaik in Childrenswear, Menswear, Top Picks, Womenswear on Thursday 21st June, 2012

Anita Naik is the resident Parenting and Beauty expert at VoucherCodes.co.uk and Most WantedWhen she’s not keeping readers updated on the latest make up trends and fragrance releases, she can be found penning her next book. Anita is super passionate about health, beauty, parenting, technology and Louboutins!

How do you pack for your summer holidays? Are you a throw-it-all-in the night before mum, or pack everything-and-the-kitchen-sink kind of parent?

Back before I had kids, I was a less-is-more type. My theory being – why pack everything, when you can always buy what you need abroad! Of course like many pre-parent theories this was severely tested the moment I went on holiday with kids.

Over the years I have been caught short of various items including swimming nappies, smart clothes, dresses and on one horrible occasion – kids underwear!

So seeing as how I never again want to have to persuade a stroppy 4-year old that everyone wears pull-ups on holiday, I now always ensure I have a holiday hot list that I prepare well in advance. It usually has around 10 key items (aside of basics like underwear, nappies and towels) and has to meet the following criteria:

(1)         All clothes must be both functional and fashionable.

(2)         There must be holiday-style gear for husband.

(3)         Clothes must not make us look like a family that has got dressed in the dark.

Clothing At Tesco Holiday Hot List!

Stella Morgan Chain Print Maxi Dress £20.00 F&F Mix And Match Neon Colour Block Bandeau Bikini Top £3.50 F&F Mix And Match Neon Tie Side Bikini Briefs £3.50 F&F Leather Strap Sandal £12.50 Smith & Jones Palm Trees Swim Shorts With Flip Flops £15.00 Pride & Glory Applique Crew T-Shirt £8.00 F&F Girls Floral Sunglasses £3.50 F&F Boys Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses £3.50 Rolling Stones T-Shirt £9.00 F&F Pack Of 2 Fun In The Sun T-Shirtsfrom £5.00 Cherokee Pocket Chino Shortsfrom £8.00 F&F Pastel Flower Print Dressfrom £10.00

Having said all that here is my current Top 10 List:

1. Mix and Match Colour Bandeau Bikini Top £3.50 and Bikini Briefs £3.50. Neon is also a major SS12 trend making this two piece a hit.

2. Stella Morgan Chain Print Maxi Dress £20.00. Hits all the right boxes – on trend Versace style chain print, maxi to hide variety of sins, and turquoise one of the hot SS12 colours.

3. Leather Strap Sandals £12.50. Great style that will work for beach or best, plus comes in a variety of colours and even a t-bar style.

4. Applique T-Shirt £8.00. A great tee that scores well with it’s American varsity logo.

5. Men’s Swim Shorts With Flip Flops £15.00. I always like a buy that kills two birds with one stone – laid back beach shorts with flip flops – ideal husband buy!

6. Kid sunglasses – Floral £3.50 and Aviator £3.50 – the one item I ALWAYS forget and can never find when abroad.

7. Chino Shorts (boys) £8.00. An ideal buy for the 2 year old.

8. Pack of 2 Fun in the Sun T-shirts £5.00. My 2 year old goes through t-shirts at an alarming rate so I’m loving this two pack.

9. Pastel Flower Print Dress £10.00. Pastels and floral equals cute on any little girl, making this dress a must-have buy.

10. Rolling Stones T-shirt £9.00 – Grey is the new pink in my daughter’s eyes (pink being too babyish apparently) so she’s chosen this rock tee as her must-have holiday item. Who am I to argue?

New brand… Proskins Sportswear

By Ken Synnott in Brands, Menswear, News, Sportswear, Womenswear on Thursday 4th August, 2011

This week has been extra exciting for the clothing team here at Tesco, as we’ve finally received stock of a very highly anticipated sportswear brand on the site called Proskins.

If you haven’t heard of Proskins, they’re a professional sportswear manufacturer, which with specialist knowledge, great innovations and cutting edge design; have safety established themselves as a market leader in the sportswear industry!

The clothing team are going mad for the products we have on the site, especially the ladies with the Proskin Slim products for women. The amazing Proskin Slim leggings have specially designed to optimise your body’s ability to re-sculpt and lose inches – a fantastic at just £50!

Proskins also has an extra special range by Jason Robinson (pictured below), the former international rugby union and rugby lead player! To celebrate our launch, we caught up with Jason to find out why he teamed up with Proskins

KS: Hi Jason, so how did you first get involved in rugby?

JR: It all started at school, where I was into all kinds of sports. I was at Crossflatts Park Middle school and we were always messing about with a football or a cricket bat.  I was drawn to rugby by an enthusiastic sports teacher .Although I was small and slim for my age I loved the physicality of the game.  I started to play rugby league for for an amateur club and did that for 4-5 years and got spotted by  Wigan Rugby club and I went professional at the age of 17.

KS: How did the involvement with Proskins come about?

JR: Through a friend. As a sportsman I was always being sent products to try and was always looking for something that gave me that bit extra for my sport. The Proskins Active and Recovery product provided this extra benefit. My legs feel much better after exercise due to the benefits of the compression technology.  I developed my relationship with the brand and eventually my role changed to working for the company.

KS: What was it like to design your own range?

JR: Very new and strange but ultimately it is a privilege to be able to have that much input. My relationship with the designer at Proskins was crucial as they are specialists in their field but they allowed me to give the range my own look and feel.

KS: What has surprised you through the process?

JR: Everything really. It is amazing how much you take for granted but when you are involved every element takes on new importance. From cloth weights to fabric benefits. It’s odd but in a way when you are a retired sports person you try to find something to replace the adrenaline of the game and doing this has given me a new challenge. It has been great also that we are trying to speed up the design to production process which can take 12-18 months normally and we have tried to reduce this to around 16 weeks.

KS: What has been the greatest sporting moment of your career?

JR: There have been so many special moments having played at the highest level in both rugby codes.Playing for GB, England and the British and Irish Lions have all been fantastic but winning the 2003 World Cup with England in Sydney, Australia has to be the greatest moment!

KS: What is your own personal style?

JR: Quite mixed. Sometimes life dictates what you wear. I was a professional sportsman for 20 years so there was a lot of tracksuits etc but sometimes I needed to dress smart so it is a shirt and tie. I’d say generally I am quite smart. I have had a few fashion disasters when i was a teenager though too. I remember a particularly bad outfit, which I have a picture of somewhere of a turquoise pair of jeans and a puffa jacket in a similar colour. But don’t worry I won’t be repeating that in my new range.

KS: What are your predictions for the Rugby World Cup?

JS: New Zealand are favourites and have been for the last two World Cups but really with a competition like that it is down to any team on the day. Teams like South Africa and Australia have a good chance . England will need a few favours along the way if they are to reach a third consecutive final. England showed real character in 2007 and I hope this can be repeated. It comes down to the team who can handle playing under immense pressure and turn every opportunity into points!

KS: Thanks Jason and good luck with the range.

Here Come The Boys!

By Chloe Tompkins in Get the look, Menswear, Trends on Tuesday 2nd August, 2011

From checks to chinos, and stripes to selvedge, the guy’s certainly aren’t short of style inspiration at Clothing at Tesco! However with so many trends out there, it’s no secret that picking the key additions to your wardrobe can sometimes be a tricky affair.

If you or that special guy in your life is in a bit of a trend muddle, always remember our top tip – try it on! It’s always a good idea to try new items on with your existing wardrobe, as there’s nothing worse than having that bang on trend item and nothing to wear it with! We’ve now also made it even easier to do this, with free returns by post or to a store.

To whet your appetite in the meantime, check out the key trends from our collection to give you a bit of a headstart! Be sure to let us know which items you have your eye on, and how you would style them!

Show Us Your Stripes

Look sharp with this Nordic inspired outfit! The clean lines of the F&F Breton Stripe Jumper (£12) and dapper cut of the F&F slim fit chinos (£16) make a great combo, which is balanced out by these casual F&F Canvas Baseball Shoes (£12) for an effortlessly cool look!

One For Everyday

This is a great smart casual look, which will see you nicely through whatever your day has lined up! Check shirts are a staple of any man’s wardrobe and this F&F wide check shirt (£13) is a great addition. Wear it with these smart F&F selvedge denim jeans (£25) and F&F canvas plimsolls (£12) to complete the look.

Down By The Sea

The nautical trend seems to make its way back season after season, and we certainly have no complaints! A key colour in this trend is blue and white, and this F&F Stripe Print Polo (£12) would look great with a pair of Ambrose Shorts (£12) and these F&F Camouflage Print Flip Flops (£5)

Tuxedo Time!

By Rochelle Symons in Menswear, Offers on Monday 29th November, 2010

We know that Christmas is party dress season, and we sometimes get so wrapped up in our lovely womenswear section, that we forget that men have to look good during the festive season too!

We realise shopping for guys isn’t always easy. Which is why we’re here to help out. We’ve got an amazing, (and I mean AMAZING), deal on tuxedo’s. Normally a daunting purchase, and worn so infrequently that it’s hard to justify the expense of buying one.

So to help out, we’ve released a tuxedo on the site which is only £50. Yes, you heard right. And it gets better, because until the 5th of December, you can snap it up for a measly £35. There’s really no excuse.

And let’s face it. Every man needs a tux. And every man looks better in a tux. Even David Beckham, who you would think couldn’t look any better!

And after snapping up this bargain for your man, the real highlight is that you now have more to spend on shoes. Go on then…

Behind the scenes of our menswear shoot

By Ken Synnott in Behind the scenes, Menswear on Monday 5th July, 2010

Last week we were busy shooting our menswear collection for Autumn/Winter, and we thought we would give you a sneak peek of what was going on behind the scenes.

We gave you a look at some of the range at the press day in May, and the menswear team have been hard at work since, including a long day on this shoot!

There was also some excitement, as the team spotted the Queen of Pop coming into the studio as they were on their way out. Perhaps she is a material girl after all…

Menswear Spring/Summer 2011

By Reena Rai in Menswear on Thursday 24th June, 2010

With all this football talk over the last week or so, we’ve barely had a chance to mention Menswear Fashion Week in Milan. The likes of Roberto Cavalli and Vivienne Westwood have had such inspirational catwalk shows, giving us a sneak peek into what style conscious men will be wearing next summer. It all kicked off last Saturday with Dolce & Gabbana, who were celebrating their 20th anniversary in Menswear. With so many gorgeous menswear looks – and models – on the catwalk we were spoilt for choice, but our firm favourite in the office was Versace.

Inspired by their archives and photography by renowned fashion photographer Bruce Weber, the collection has a definite Eighties vibe. We loved the new suit silhouette, which was very fitted with slightly shortened sleeves and trousers rolled up at the ankle. As well as sleek and sophisticated suits, they also had some more casual, rockabilly-inspired looks with fringed leather and plaid shirts. The collection featured a lot of black but with splashes of white, aqua blue, pink and red which are refreshingly summery.

Here are some staple pieces you can use to achieve this look at an affordable price:

F&F check shirt, F&F shirt & tie set, Urban Resistance suit jacket, Urban Resistance suit trousers, Urban Resistance grey suit trousers

Invest in a dark navy suit, that you can wear with a contrasting collar shirt. You can also mix the jacket with a lighter shade of trousers, and for days when you don’t need a formal jacket, pair the lighter trousers with a checked shirt.

You don’t need to spend a million to look like a million dollars…

Beachwear

By Rochelle Symons in Childrenswear, Menswear, Top Picks, Womenswear on Wednesday 23rd June, 2010

With so much sunshine today, we really got into a ‘beachy’ mood, hoping and dreaming that our summer holidays come soon! Long days on the sand reading a book while watching the kids build a sandcastle.

So here are some of our ideas for those beach essentials you just have to have if you are planning a beach holiday this year:

Sundress, F&F chain swimsuit, F&F rivet sandals, F&F distressed denim shorts

For the ladies, a one piece is not only seriously on trend, but it hides a multitude of sins. Paired with some shorts, it can also move from beach front to beach bar with little effort. Flip flops and a versatile sundress are also two key pieces every lady should have on hand.

F&F straw trilby, Storm rimless sports wrap sunglasses, F&F leather toe post sandals, F&F checked swim shorts

For the men, a good pair of swimming shorts, a hat to protect a burning scalp (definitely not for covering up a bald patch), some sunglasses and classic leather flip flops, and you are good to go!

Thonged flip flops, Peppa Pig swimsuit, Ben 10 flip flops, F&F hooded beach poncho, F&F two pack fisherman hatsBen 10 swim shorts

For the kids, the most important thing is keeping their sensitive skin protected from the sun. For the little boys, I am sure you would agree that anything Ben 10 related will keep a big smile on their faces! Pair that with a sensible fishing hat, and you have a very happy (and protected) little one! For the girls, we just love frilly swimsuits! Another great buy, for girls or boys is a hooded towel. Keeps the sun away and it means no more squirming with them when you are trying to dry them off!

So wherever you and the family are heading off for your holidays, have a good time and remember to protect our sensitive British skins! Pink is definitely not a good colour this season….
