Part 4: Top Bikini Tips
As this Friday, 5th July, is ‘Bikini Day’ the hot topic of conversation in the office this week is bikini season. We asked people what their biggest bikini faux pas have been and their top tips for avoiding a holiday disaster!
1. Buying the right style bikini for the right kind of holiday
An ill-fitting bikini or swimsuit can leave you red faced, whether it’s too small and pinches the places you’d rather not draw attention to, or if it’s too big resulting in a post water slide disaster! With this is mind, it’s always a good idea to bring at least one sporty style bikini, or a sturdy one piece with good bust support that is comfortable in case you spend a day at a waterpark or rent a surf board to test your skills on.
2. Looking after your swimwear
As with most girls, I like to pack multiple bikini and one-piece options for my holidays. To make your swimwear last and get the most out of your carefully selected pieces, be sure to rinse each item at the end of the day so that the sea salt or chlorine doesn’t damage or fade the material.
3. Strap marks
Sunburn is probably the biggest holiday dampener going. Not only is it dangerous and bad for your skin, it can leave you feeling hot, agitated and unsure what to wear. Even when it’s cloudy it’s possible to burn, so always wear a high SPF. Bandeau bikinis or strapless swimwear are ideal styles to avoid unusual strap marks and always ensure you apply sun cream 30 minutes before going out into the sun to allow it to sink into your skin.
4. Mix and match
Create your own look by mixing your bikini tops and bottoms to create new styles. Mixing your bikini separates is very on-trend and allows your holiday wardrobe to go even further. Style prints with block colours or mix up your styles to suit your personal taste, it’s up to you!
