Wednesday Wants…

By Gemma Conley-Smith in Street Style, Top Picks on Wednesday 23rd January, 2013

Today’s Wednesday Want is these killer combat jeans.  Now, on first glance they may look a little scary, and they certainly make a change from regular skinny jeans, but let me tell you, these combats are the way of the future.  They’re made from 100% cotton, and it’s a soft and comfy mid weight cotton which wears in beautifully, and see those pockets? They’ve been purposely placed there to flatter the leg.  These military skinnies are going straight onto my want list for spring, and instead of wearing them casually, I’m going to team them with super high heels, a neutral t-shirt and a sequin blazer.  Those studs are going to sparkle like nobody’s business under lights, and the zips give them a proper haute couture look.

I also think these would look fab with wedge heeled hi-top trainers
Now go on, share your Wednesday Want with us.  And let me know if you’re going to give these skinny cargo jeans a go!

Best of London Fashion Week Street Style!

By Rochelle Symons in London Fashion Week, Street Style, Trends on Monday 26th September, 2011

It certainly feels like London Fashion Week started and finished in the blink of an eye, but we had a fabulous time! And once again, the F&F team were on site at Somerset House with the important task of snapping the best style spotted on the street.

However, with so many wonderful outfits, we asked you guys to help us crown the ‘LFW Street Style of the Day’, by decide on your favourite looks over on our Facebook page! It was certainly a close call, but keep reading to take a peek at the best outfits of the week, as voted for by you!

Monday

With influences from the Parisian scene, we just adored the understated style and sense of cool this woman gives off. Bright reds and blacks go together perfectly and give a very classy feel to the outfit.

Tuesday

Checks & Pleats

We loved how eccentric this outfit was! The big bold pleats are certain to turn heads and this girl really shows how to wear them. We especially like the mix between the subtle checks on one side and the vivid yellows on the other half of the dress. Oh, and just look at those gorgeous shoes!

Wednesday

Orange

Autumnal tones were definitely starting to emerge this Fashion Week, and we loved the combination of a bright orange v-neck top with a tailored tweed jacket, for that touch of English-gentleman. The outfit is also completed nicely with stylish boots and a vintage inspired leather satchel.

 Thursday

Monochrome

This amazing ensemble fits in perfectly with this season’s Monochrome Trend. We especially fell for the retro styling of her jacket, and the leather detailing on the sleeves are bang on trend for this season. Her vintage looking blouse is a wonderful addition and oversized 60’s glasses give her outfit that extra wow factor!

Friday

Clashing Patterns

People often have doubts about clashing patterns, but this dress shows how they can look beautiful when done right. The transition between intricate prints on the top of the dress and bold black and white dots toward the bottom is flawless, and we love how she has balanced out the print with a pair of understated black ankle wedges!

London Fashion Week is well under way, and it’s been a great chance for us to catch up with our favourite bloggers down on the cobbles at Somerset House! Of course, they all looked simply fab (we wouldn’t expect anything less!), and we thought we’d give you a sneak peek at some of their gorgeous LFW outfits!

LLYMLRS

Autumn/Winter Trends

By Rochelle Symons in Exclusive, F&F Couture, Get the look, Street Style, Trends, Womenswear on Wednesday 27th October, 2010

If you are an avid blog reader, you may have been seeing some bloggers talking about our new A/W range. We challenged them to choose one item from our new range and style it up their way!

We have seen some trends in the way they have styled their outfits, and even with the items they have chosen…take a look at how some of the bloggers styled their outfits…

First up we have Tor from Fabfrocks and Katie from What Katie Wore rocking the  shoulder pad trend. Both ladies chose items from our brand new A/W Couture range, and don’t they look fabulous? Tor is wearing the Couture panel dress and Katie is wearing the Couture button front shoulder blouse.

Both have been styled with some heels to add height, and minimal accessories.

Another big trend for A/W is khaki and neutral shades, from nail polish to trousers, this is going to be big! We love these two outfits from Vicky at Lady Bug Says and Natalie from Fashion Pearls of Wisdom. Working with a subdued palette of colour, we think both these ladies look great! Vicky is wearing the faux feather fur cropped jacket and Natalie is wearing the printed peg leg trousers.

We are going to be sharing more trends with you over the next few days, so look out for some more looks from more amazing bloggers!

Hong Kong Street Style

By Kate in Street Style on Monday 28th June, 2010

Hong Kong is a city of huge contrasts – Michelin-starred restaurants rub shoulder-to-shoulder with cheap noodle houses, the slick MTR underground system and countless red taxis run alongside the historic trams that trundle the width of the island, and fashion here is no exception!

The contrast between aspirational designer gowns and bargain market stall gems; smart workwear crafted by Hong Kong’s finest tailors and slogan T-shirts with ripped jeans evoking Japanese punk; traditional Eastern values borrowing from modern Western aesthetics is apparent from the moment you hit the streets.

Office ladies tend to be immaculately dressed at all times, usually in black, often with skyscraper heels or a luxe touch of designer arm candy. It’s not unheard of for entry-level workers here to live on instant noodles for a month in order to afford a pair of Louboutins come payday – now that’s dedication to style!

Youth style tends to be playful and experimental in Hong Kong, experimenting with slogan tees, customised or engineered denim and bright, colourful accessories. The city’s many small boutiques cater to the crowd that wants to stand out in this city of 7 million!

The yummy mummy is another definite feature of the Hong Kong style landscape. Manicures, pedicures and massages are considered essential maintenance here, rather than an occasional treat and styles tend to be well-heeled and certainly well-groomed. Plenty of neutral shades and well-cut denims along with expensive, if tastefully understated accessories that work from the PTA meeting to cocktails at sunset!

It’s a cliché, yes, but style here truly embodies the ‘east meets west’ vibe that the city is so famous for. Sometimes this can result in a clash, but generally the two cultures collide harmoniously to form a style that’s totally distinct to Hong Kong.

Street Style – South African Style

By Rochelle Symons in Street Style on Thursday 29th April, 2010

With the World Cup just around the corner, we had our South African insider hit the streets to give us a taste of what the big trends and looks are in Cape Town.

Unlike here, the summer season has just ended in South Africa, and they are moving into autumn, which is why some of our models are dressed up a bit warmer than you would expect.

For those of you travelling to the World Cup, remember that it’s going to be rainy and a bit cold (although nowhere near as cold as our autumn). So stock up on light jackets and denim. If your not heading off to the World Cup, but want too make sure you enter our competition to win a family trip to the World Cup.

Our insider has informed us vintage clothing has always been a big part of Cape Town fashion, you can see a lot of vintage pieces in these photos. There are loads of vintage stores in Cape Town, and if you chose the right ones you can honestly snap up some ridiculously cheap bargains!

Our model in the red dress is rocking the ‘zef’ trend with her sunglasses, a South African trend epitomized by the band ‘Die Antwoord’.

What do you think of their style? Are you a fan?

Portobello Road Street Style

By Jennifer Barton in Street Style on Monday 22nd March, 2010

If you’re in need of some stylish inspiration, look no further than London’s Portobello Road. Not only are there amazing vintage finds and jewellery stalls every few steps, but the fashion parade of stylish Londoners makes for a fabulous afternoon of people-watching and trend-spotting.

The cute girls shopping and browsing this afternoon had on lots of spring’s key trends like floral prints, lace and rock-chick style, seen on everything from studded accessories to tough-looking boots and jackets. We love how these girls put their individual spin on the trends – adding a burst of colour to an all-black outfit with a scarf or toughening up funky florals with a leather bomber (or giving them a preppy edge with a hunting jacket). Not even the occasional drizzle of rain could stand in their way!

Maybe we’ll snap a shot of you next time we’re in the neighbourhood…until then, happy shopping!

Womenswear Street Style

By Vanessa Jackman in Street Style, Womenswear on Monday 8th March, 2010

So what were the major trends I spotted as I dashed around LFW with my camera? For the girls it would appear that long, skinny skirts and narrow dresses are making a welcome return to the street (after seasons of short, shorter and shortest) worn with the essential shoe of the season: the laced-up boot, with or without a wedged heel.

Judging by some of the looks which floated down the catwalk at Aquascutum and Richard Nicoll, this might be a trend which will carry right through summer and into A/W 2010. Fur, both fake and real, new and vintage, was seemingly everywhere from fur-trimmed parkas and gloves to huge, enveloping three-quarter length coats. Leather (trousers, skirts, tiny shorty shorts, leggings and jackets) was another huge trend which will definitely carry over to next winter.

The Paris collections for spring/summer were bursting with leather pieces and the Burberry, Christopher Kane, and Unique shows all featured leather heavily. I spotted a number of girls already sporting the shearling lined leather jacket which will be a must-have (and sound investment) item for next winter. Other looks I spied: Sheer lace skirts (worn over leggings), and lace bodysuits and trousers; the urban utility look (anoraks and parkas in khaki and sand hues, skinny cargo pants, flat lace-up boots); high-heeled clogs (a nightmare to navigate the cobblestones in especially when worn with slippery tights!); denim overalls; hats of all types; hooded capes and coats (perfect for keeping the rain out); studded and riveted shoes, bags (Alexander Wang’s handbags are still deeply covetable), jackets and jeans: the rock/soft-punk trend is still clearly with us.
