It’s that time of year again – you look out the window at 3pm and suddenly it’s dark, the office is chilly all week long, and by the end of the day you’ve had 6 gingerbread lattes. In other words, winter is here. If you’re anything like us here at F&F HQ, the first task of the day if you’re wearing a skirt is a rummage through your chest of drawers trying to find a pair of wearable tights – some that aren’t snarled and bobbly, some that will keep you warm, and maybe even a pair of tights to add an extra kick to your look.
Today, I thought I’d share our team’s top picks for tights and what to wear with them, and we’d love to hear yours!
Nicola’s pick: Nic has been rocking both leather and velvet skirts in the office recently, and she often goes for a mixed texture look by teaming her skirt with grey marl tights. She adds warmth to her outfit with some tan heels, but this look would also work with these cool studded flats. Teaming her skirt and textured tights with a soft knit jumper, Nicola is also obsessed with berets this season.

Laura’s picks: Laura’s nickname within our team is ‘little one’ and very occasionally she’s mistaken for someone, well, younger than she is, which is why she’s loving peplum styles at the moment… still girly, but grown up. She’s also a fan of geometric patterns, which is where these houndstooth tights come in. Laura also loves teaming her trusty flared skirt with a patterned jumper and these checked tights are perfect for adding interest to that combo.
My picks: As I’m from Australia originally, I love embracing the British heritage look and pretending that I actually hail from these shores. I’m also a big fan of all things floral, so I am in love with these flower print tights. I like to pair them with checks and tweeds, like this cute check duffle coat. I’m also eyeing off these statement Argyle tights, which would add a cool edge to a black outfit. Finally, this adorable fox hat will add a quirky touch to my girly florals.

Susannah’s picks: Susannah, our boss, rocks a sophisticated style and more often than not you’ll find her in fashion forward tailored separates or a tunic and leggings, brought up to date with ankle boots and a colour pop scarf and topped off with her parka.
She’s been raving about fleece lined tights and thermal leggings – which look just as good as the regular kind but keep you uber warm. Of course, the beauty of these is that you can wear them with socks and boots as well and they’re also great for layering for the outdoors in winter.
What are your favourite tights for the winter? And how do you wear them? Can you pick the style of the girls in your office? Let us know in the comments!
