Welcome to the New Year – and what a fashionable year it’s set to be. We take a look at two of the trends set to take the catwalks – and our wardrobes – by storm in 2014, and show you how to start working them right now.
Cowgirl-inspired fashion will see us working denim, plaids and boots as we have done in years gone by, but 2014 is putting its own stamp on the western look. Showgirl cowgirl is a hybrid mash-up of chunky accessories, laid-back shirts and off-duty denims, but with sexy sheer embellishments in the form of bra-baring crop tops, barely-there fabrics and femme fatale-inspired silhouettes.
How to work it
Stay true to your faithful blue jeans but get ready to dress them up with sheer-panelled tops and jackets. Cinch your waist in for a feminine shape that brings this look up to date and into the New Year. Don’t forget those chunky, cowgirl-style boots – you’re aiming for a look that says “I could hack it on a farm but I’d definitely turn a few heads”.
A Foray into Fringing
Fringing has graced the catwalks under many guises – from twenties flapper-inspired looks to tougher, biker-style ensembles, but 2014 is set to take fringing in new directions or rather, all directions. There won’t be just one style paving the way this year; fringing will feature in everything from casualwear to the most dressed up and decadent evening looks. We’ll be wearing it for dinner dates, to hang out on the beach (we know that still seems like a very distant dream), and for relaxed weekends at home. Expect fringing in silk, leather and beading, and be ready to embrace it all.
How to work it
If you find fringing in a style you like, grab it. Thanks to the prevalence of this trend across 2014′s hottest fashions, you really can’t go wrong.Tassel Mini Cross-Body Bag, £8
