What makes a spooky Halloween party?

By Hannah Thomas in Costume, Halloween on Wednesday 24th October, 2012

It’s nearly that time of year again when your little monsters can dress-up as witches, bats and devils, paint their faces and ‘politely’ ask for hoards of sweets and chocolates.  At F&F HQ we’ve been talking about the essential food, games and ghoulish decorations that make a Halloween party truly spook-tastic.

Here are our top 5 party necessities to keep kids happy:

1.) Slime-like jelly in bright green or yellow served with ice-cream and strawberry sauce as a blood garnish

2.) Eye ball toffee apples on sticks – guaranteed to keep jaws busy

3.) Apple bobbing – just remember to keep towels handy!

4.) Fake cobwebs, tombstones and skeleton decorations

5.) Halloween treasure hunt – hide treats around the house and watch as kids scatter

Think you might be able to include any of the above in your spooktacular Halloween celebrations? If you’re having a Halloween party, then let us know what ghoulish treats and games you’ve got planned!

Also, if you’re struggling to find the right outfit for your little terrors, then head here for some inspiration.

Finally, don’t forget to head over to our Facebook page for your chance to enter our Creepy Covers competition. You could win a Halloween fun pack for the kids and a £25 voucher to spend online but hurry because the competition closes at midnight tonight! Simply click here for more

Twitter Ghost Story

By Rochelle Symons in Competitions, Friday Steals, News on Friday 22nd October, 2010

Thanks to everyone who took part in our Halloween Giveaway and tweeted their contributions to our Friday ghost story. I think we would all agree that there were some very amusing tweets throughout the day.

Here’s the full spooky story with the winning tweets…

“Deep within the darkest woods lived an old lady. Everyone was scared of her, but no one knew why…It seemed like she had always been there. Generations of kids had dared one another to trick or treat her, the kids would knock at the door, shaking in their boots but never did she answer until one night…

The door creaked open as thunder rolled long and loud from above. Their faces paled and mouths opened in preparation to yell “Trick or Treat” but their voices were muted by the vision of a gnarly hand extended towards them, grasping a bowl of what looked like fingernails and frogs legs.

The children looked at each other in horror. The old lady leant towards them and with a shriek yelled “TRICK”!

Before any of them had chance to move she bent over and grabbed hold of the broom standing by the door. Leaping on she launched herself into the night sky, shrieking and taking with her all of the sweets the children had collected so far.

“Typical” said one. “Mum will never believe we haven’t eaten them all.”

Congrats to all our winners, who have been contacted on Twitter.

In case you hadn’t noticed, we are fast approaching the spookiest night of the year, Halloween!

Watch our Twitter page on Friday to join in on our first ever Halloween ghost story! How will it work?

We are going to be tweeting the opening line to a ghost story (ie. It was a dark and stormy night…), and YOU will then be able to tweet us back with the line you think should be next. We will then retweet a tweet from one of our followers, which continues the story. If you are lucky enough to get your tweet in as part of the story, you will win a Halloween goodie bag to help you celebrate Halloween.

We can’t wait until Friday, we are going to start reading some spooky tales now for inspiration…

If you still need to stock up on Halloween costumes, you may enjoy our 20% off offer on the Halloween range, which is valid until Monday. Here are our top picks:

Last day for Halloween steals

By Reena Rai in Offers, Top Picks on Tuesday 28th September, 2010

I can barely believe it’s the end of September, hasn’t time flown? The kids have been back at school for almost a month which means that Halloween must be just around the corner! Here at Tesco HQ, this is one of our favourite times of the year and the definite highlight of Autumn. Even though it’s just one night at the end of October, an eerie ghostly and ghoulish atmosphere usually decends weeks earlier. In the offices, there are already ghost stories circulating and much debate about the best and most original fancy dress costume. Last year’s most popular choice was Lady Gaga, we had several amazing Gaga lookalikes. We think that 2010 will be the year of the vampire fancy dress outfit, with the likes of Twilight and Vampire Diaries only growing in popularity. A couple of our more Halloween obsessed team mates (who must have a lot of time on their hands!) have been inspired by Avatar and Alice in Wonderland!

If you’ve been on our site recently, you must have seen our fantastic Halloween offer – save 20% on our ghoulish  Halloween dress up range. We have dozens of scary kids costumes and even costumes for the adults so you can join in too! Hurry though, the offer ends tomorrow.

Here are our favourites:

Bat Witch Costume - was £8, now £6.40                                               Dracula costume – was £8, now £6.40
