London Fashion Week – day three

By Ken Synnott in London Fashion Week Daily Roundups on Monday 19th September, 2011

It was madness at Mulberry from Refresher-stripe maxi dresses to cropped, cape back sou’westers and a bonkers seaside theme complete with sticks of Mulberry rock [delicious by the way]. But the sartorial note I took was that Kate Moss was wearing a Fedora front row.  And so too was uber fashion blogger Anna dello Russo. And I thought we’d finished with those last season!

Now I know I was able to exclusively bring you the scoop of Tom Ford’s uber private debut show last February. This season however, he had me sign a confidentiality agreement. But I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me sharing with you his catwalk tunes especially as two of them are favourites of mine: Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack and  You’ll Be Mine by NY sister duo The Pierces.

But sighting of the day must go to Naomi Campbell who was looking happy in a relaxed in a foxy bodcon McQueen dress and oversized sunnnies. And not a sign of a tantrum.

This is fashion darling, reporting from fashion’s front line, Somerset House, London WC2.

Little Wedding Belles

By Rochelle Symons in Childrenswear, News on Thursday 24th March, 2011

There’s no doubt about it – 2011 will go down as the biggest wedding year for nearly three decades.  Obviously Will and Kate are the highlight of all the celeb marriages taking place this year, and we cannot wait to see the dress, the flowers and the gorgeous bridesmaids and pageboys!

If you like your brides a little more rocky, there’s always the other Kate (Miss Moss) and Jamie Hince planning what we can imagine will be a 2-week non-stop party to celebrate.  We wouldn’t like to be her neighbours, but we would like an invite pretty please!

Nearly trumping the lot, the big news that we’re launching our own wedding shop, complete with beautiful bridesmaids and pageboy outfits!  Anyone who’s ever been a bridesmaid will know how special it feels, and yes, it is all about your dress!  Clothing at Tesco bridesmaid dresses start at just £18 for little princesses from 12 months to 10 years, with linen and pinstripe suits for handsome pageboys aged 5 to 14 starting at just £25.

The bridesmaid range comprises a choice of six dresses in a range of fabrics and colours, including pink and white silk, with beautiful sashes, bows, sequins and appliqué flowers and butterflies.  There’s also a choice of matching cardies to cover up if old blighty decides to blow a breeze on the big day.

F&F Bridesmaid cardigan

Pageboys can choose between linen suits in beige or pale grey, a pinstripe suit in black or navy, or a three piece waistcoat set.

With so many arrangements to make for the big day, it’ll be a relief to know that finding an outfit for the second most important lady or gent isn’t going to break the bank or require hours of searching!

Selected items are online to buy now, with the full range launching mid-April – that’s just in time for the two Kates to dress their little belles before the big day!

Paris Fashion Week

By Ken Synnott in News on Thursday 10th March, 2011

Naomi Campbell Spotted at Paris Fashion Week

Regarded as one of the most stylish capitals of the world and the home of haute couture, Paris certainly takes its fashion very seriously and we’ve been keeping a sneaky eye on the runways of Paris Fashion Week.

With a long-standing reputation for churning out some of the most extravagant, luxurious, and decadent clothing to grace the fashion world, this season certainly didn’t fail to impress! From the gorgeous traditionally autumn palette used by Elie Saab, to the epitome of seventies chic from Chloe, style spotters were treated to great inspiration from all directions.

We also loved the dramatic atmosphere at the Chanel show, and thought Sarah Burton’s collection as creative director of Alexander McQueen paid the perfect tribute to the designer’s show stopping style.

Kate Moss And Jamie Hince Spotted At Paris Fashion Week

Of course, where the models walk, the celebs are sure to follow – and Paris Fashion Week certainly didn’t have a shortage of those! Louis Vuitton enlisted a veritable who’s who of the fashion world to walk their runway, including supermodel veteran’s Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. Hollywood also made the trip across the pond with the likes of Katy Perry, Liv Tyler, and Emma Roberts all taking pride of place on the front row.

Lady Gaga At Paris Fashion Week

It seems as though a couple of the A-list weren’t too lucky, as we heard reports that Kanye West had being turned away from a number of top name shows. However, the show was truly stolen by Lady Gaga, as she made her catwalk debut for Mugler.

It has certainly been an action-packed week, and we expected nothing less from Fashion Week. After all, it’s barely two weeks since we saw our very own London Fashion Week draw to a close – be sure to check out the reports from the front row and highlights by our F&F team!

If you’re also thinking about your wardrobe for the upcoming season, don’t forget to check out our trend updates on the Clothing at Tesco website, where we’ve covered the new seventies trend and the re-emergence of florals!

It’s the new year and with it comes a whole new style.  Here are our favourite trends for Spring/Summer 2011.

1. Purple

A colour that suits everyone, this year it’ll be gracing our wardrobes in it’s many forms and shades, from pastels to Amethyst. MaxMara sent their models down the catwalk in head-to-toe purple.  Get the look with this gorgeous F&F Velvet puff sleeve dress. It’s on trend for 2011 and even better – it’s in our sale!

2.Biker jackets

It’s time to ditch the aviator and get a Harley! Burberry led the way at the S/S 2011 shows, and since then everyone from Kate Moss to Alexa Chung have revived this 80s classic.   Liquorice have designed a fantastic faux leather jacket, which is a snip at just £55!

3. The perfect trouser

Forget harems and pegs…its all about tapered trousers!  Taking the hottest trend of last year straight through to this, this lightweight and sophisticated look will see you out of your winter warmers all the way through to summer. Get the look with these F&F Trousers and team with heels or flat pumps for chic tailored style.

4. Leopard print

Be an animal in 2011! Just don the kitty print to bring out you inner vixen! Try this gorgeous F&F Limited Edition Leopard print top and pair with red nails for that purrrrfect look.

5. Satchels

Practical, chic and with enough room to fit all the essentials, satchels aren’t just for Back to School.  We love this compact Marc Jacobs number – it’s compact, classy and cool as a cucumber. Get the same style for a fraction of the price with our F&F Multi pocket satchel.

6. Camel

Versatile, warm, natural and a great alternative to grey. Keep those neutral hues and add colour as a statement.  While we wait for winter to melt away, this soft hue will warm up an outfit without overpowering it. We love this F&F jumper for its quirky shoulders which add dimension to a winter essential.

7. Make like Vicky B….

As seen in Grazia…gorgeous soft and warm cashmere jumpers. Our F&F Signature Cashmere jumper is made from 100% cashmere, has a super soft feel and is perfect for keeping warm in this season. So make like the Spicy one this season – they’re perfect for David or you.

8. The tux

The tux trend is in full swing with everyone from Kate Moss to Cher Lloyd and Lily Allen donning the fitted black number with everything from skin tight leggings, to wide-legged trousers or over short skirts and dresses.  It’s a clear winner whether you’re stepping out to do the weekly shop, or out to the swankiest restaurant in town.  Steal their style with our F&F Soft crepe Jacket.

9. 1970′s Stripy knits and maxi skirts

Angelina Jolie, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton…all fans of the Maxi which is seeing its biggest revival since the ‘70s.  Missoni leads the way with their stripy knits, and long, flowing romantic skirts.  Get the look with this F&F Maxi skirt which will see you float into summer like a pre-Raphaelite maiden.

10. Willow Smith Whip your hair….Jumpsuits and afros

If you haven’t seen that video clip or seen the blanket coverage of little miss Smith’s surprise hit, then you’re missing out on 5 minutes of the kind of entertainment only made by the offspring of huge Hollywood stars.  Little Willow Smith whipping her hair back and forth has become a huge internet hit, and now her ‘hair-style’ is making its mark on the fashion world.   We’re going crazy about jumpsuits and afros right now, not just because we want to whip our hair back and forth, but they also look fantastic with a clinch belt and heels.  Check out our gorgeous F&F wide leg jumpsuit for inspiration and get whipping!

Trend Alert – Rock Chick

By Jill Marshall in Trends, Womenswear on Wednesday 24th March, 2010

Everyone has a bit of a dark side, and in fashion this seems to be epitomised in the ever evolving rock chick trend. Good girls go bad with dark colours and studded details, sweet dresses get a sexy kick with studded belts and shoes.

If you need some celebrity inspiration, think Kate Moss, or The Twilight star, Kristen Stewart.

We have seen this look before, but this time it’s got a lot more studded detail, and more added sparkle. The focus is on “edging” up a classic girly look. Are pink high heels rock n roll? With studs on they are!

The rock chick look requires only one or two pieces to give your outfit an edge and it works really well with other big trends this year such as lace and floral’s. This season, why not combine a studded belt or scarf with a sweet floral dress? Or team up some lace leggings with some studded shoe boots? We have some great rock chick pieces to slot into your everyday wardrobe online, so have a browse.

And remember, however you choose to express your inner rock chick, there is only one accessory you will always need…attitude!

Day One at London Fashion Week

By Natalie Theo in London Fashion Week, Womenswear on Friday 19th February, 2010

A tribute to Alexander McQueen; a gold brocade halterneck swing dress which reminded me of a modern day Marie-Antoinette, teemed with black thigh-high skintight leather legwarmers worn over tights, complete with a Dolly Parton soundtrack, opened London Fashion Week.

This was the first look to hit the catwalk at the jam-packed Paul Costelloe show in the glorious surrounds of Somerset House. Ok – it looks glorious from the outside, but inside the show venue, it’s more like sitting in a jeans, ankle boots and faux fur clad sardine can. A sardine can loaded with fashionistas armed to the hilt with digi-cams, Flip camcorders, tweeting, texting, blogging, live-streaming. Yes this is LFW in 2010.

The fashion high had already been set last night. Supermodel Naomi Campbell took to the catwalk in a flirty Alexander McQueen animalskin print dress and persuaded her friends such as Kate Moss, Vivienne Westwood and David Walliams to do the same to raise money for Haiti with her Fashion For Relief Charity. It was all about best fashion friends helping each other out this season. Kate’s Alexander McQueen dress was auctioned off for one hundred grand!! As much as I loved it I couldn’t match the bid. The PM’s wife, who looks dazzling in the flesh, flew the flag for British fashion wearing a great must-have little black Issa dress, and followed this with an Erdem dress (Britain’s answer to Lacroix) today.

After the whiplash of the LFW sardine can opener, for a little more of a serene and elegant experience, Maria Grachvogel hosted a chic show in the Palm Court of the Waldorf. Her brightly coloured seventies style long dresses dazzled a front row that included Yamsin le Bon and Erin ‘O Connor. What’s more it was good to see luscious deep colours.

“Did you do all of New York? Are you going to Milan? Do you have a ticket for Hakan?” were the most urgent fashion questions of the day. And if the word Hakan means absolutely zip to you, make a mental note to remember it. Because honestly all any fashionista actually wanted to know today was “are you going to Hakkan?”. The new hot designer on the block drew fashion friends Kate Moss and superchic Editor of French Vogue Carine Roitfeld to his front row and covergirl of the moment Lara Stone and face of YSL, Givenchy, Stella McCartney to name a few, supermodel Natalia Vodianova modelling in his debut show at LFW. Models looked like softer feminine versions of sci-fi nymphettes in feathered mini-skirts, pleated bodycon litlle-black dresses and rippled black leather leggings…so expect to hear and see more of Hakan…
