Tribal Prints

By Zarah Harrison in Get the look, Trends on Thursday 22nd March, 2012

There’s a world party going on this season and you’re invited. Tribal patterns and earthy colours are inspired by African plains and safari sunsets. Wear animal and Aztec prints with bright tops and ethnic–inspired accessories for a hot, hot summer look.

We love a maxi dress in the office; they’re comfortable, flattering and an outfit in one. What’s not to love? And we especially love the tribal maxi dresses that have come in. I’ve picked out two of my favourites below but I think I’ll have a fight on my hands for the leopard print one. This has proved very popular among the girls in the office and we have a rule that only one of us can own an item, otherwise we might have a ‘oh my god, we’re both wearing the same dress’ disaster.

The tribal print trend works really well with beach wear too, I’ve picked out a few bikinis and one of our absolutely gorgeous katfkans. These are so handy when you are away, if you want to step off the beach for a spot of lunch or to grab a cold drink, you can just slip this over the top. Plus it’s not just for the beach either; you can wear this for days in the park with a little slip underneath and a chunky belt and lots of beaded necklaces for a real bohemian seventies look.

Finally, I wanted to give a sneak peak of some of the garments that are due in over the coming weeks. These shots were taken our recent photoshoot in Miami, sadly I didn’ t get to go, so I’ll have to contend with just buying a few of these to make up for it. In the office, we are all chomping at the bit, there are some seriously gorgeous clothes about to come through our doors and well, it would be selfish to keep them to myself, so see below. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for these as I can guarantee, these will go very fast…….

Festival attire goes tribal!

By This is Miss Laura in Trends, Womenswear on Monday 12th July, 2010

Tribal prints are definitely one of the prominent trends of summer 2010 and are also a huge look for summer festivals. So, if you’re still trying to plan your perfect festival outfit then luckily we are here to provide some tribal style inspiration!

If you think that tribal prints are restricted to dated black, brown and cream leopard print, think again, as for this season, we are seeing refreshing digital style tribal prints in addition to earthy, colourful and exotic prints that beautifully convey the essence of summer and look incredible as part of your festival outfit!

A great example which is perfect for a chic festival look and incorporates a striking tribal print is this F&F Tribal print bandeau style maxi dress. Comfortable yet flattering, team the dress with chunky jewellery, gladiator sandals and a pair of sleek aviator sunglasses and you’re good to go!

If you feel that the tribal print look is a little too bold for your style why not go for a statement but versatile tribal print accessory such as this F&F Tribal Print scarf.

Fusing an array of beautiful colours including black, grey, white, pink and purple, this is an ultra contemporary example of the tribal print trend and can be paired with a wide selection of pieces such as plain t-shirts, dresses or this season’s long or short jumpsuits. Adding stacked chunky bangles will also help to accentuate the tribal theme.

A small but substantially sized bag is essential for festivals and this striking F&F black and white Zebra print bag with a rope strap is an ideal accessory to jazz up a plain outfit and effectively adds a strong hint of the tribal print trend to your ensemble.

Tribal prints are a fabulous way of adding creativity and depth to your look and with the array of pieces and styles available you can be a bold or understated as you like. Festivals are the perfect opportunity to have fun and experiment with your style and for 2010, the tribal print trend is definitely the look to be channelling, in your own unique style.

A big thank you to Laura for putting this together for us, if you fancy reading more from her, check out her blog.

Hi, I’m Lizzie, one of the buyers here at Tesco. As a buyer my job entails sourcing the right products, at the right time, and at the right prices for you!

I look at key trends, fabrics, prints and colours, making sure we get the best pieces instore and online for you, our customers.

Lets talk trends…Prints are always a key trend for Spring/Summer, nothing says summer like patterns and prints, and it’s an ideal way to show off your tan! Floral prints were heavily featured on the runway this year, especially during Milan Fashion Week. If you like earthy tones and exotic influences then this trend is the one is for you. Tribal prints are very big currently with their colour and  fun nature they’re very wearable. If you needed any more convincing, the late Alexander McQueen had a beautiful, futuristic print-heavy collection for Summer which proves that prints are one look too hot to miss this summer. But remember, this doesn’t mean you need to wear prints head to toe. Work them in to your wardrobe subtly with a floral cardigan or tribal summer dress.

In honour of all things print, here are my top 5 picks from the site:
